The Kyoto Convention Resolution

The Kyoto Protocol (Annex B Party) in 2006 initiated a program to implement an emission-reduction project in developing countries. Such project can earn saleable certified emission reduction (CER) credits, each equivalent to one ton of CO2, which can be defrayed based on the dedicated fund agreed upon in Kyoto targets.

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects reflects, for example, any project that can reduce the depletion impact effect of the Ozone layer by reducing carbon emissions. These reductions are ‘produced’ and then subtracted against a hypothetical  baseline of emissions.  The emission baselines are the emission   predicted to occur in the absence of a particular CDM project. CDM projects are  ‘credit’ against this baseline , in the sense that developing countries  gain credit from producing these emission cuts.

Based on this, a PATENTED invention and eventual development of kay’s stove ( Bio-fuel stove) was achieved  by Kay Investment Limited. This was prompted and promoted  by the former President  of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who sees such initiative as not just for global support, but as well  to discourage the use of firewood  and kerosene stoves  which on many occasions have caused explosion  while cooking,  carbon monoxide inhalation and attendant implicative health hazard in many homes, and consequently air pollution.

Background

In 2002 one of our staff returned to work after watching a telecast from one of our local media. Sadly, she narrated how a kerosene powered stove had exploded while cooking as a result of adulteration. The explosion killed the person, burnt the house and relevant documents.

Deeply moved and touched by this incident and being a producer of kitchen equipment, we gathered our team of technical staff to research on a better kitchen equipment so as to curb such hazard and prevent future occurrences .
